What is art?

February 7th, 2007

A friend of mine at work introduced me to a soft, wonderful world. http://www.asofterworld.com
I liked the site so much, I emailed Emily and told her I was in like with her. I also asked if she’d be my valentine and that if she checked yes, I’d send her candy hearts.

Anyway, This site has a lot of amazingly funny, and touching art. My favorite had me rolling in the proverbial isles for quite a while. Tonight while showing the site to a friend, I came up with my own idea. My brother and I have always been suckers for bathroom humor. I hope you laugh:

Michael Richards, Persona Non GrataMeet persona non-grata, I mean Michael Richards. If you have half a life then you already know that he recently dropped the “N” bomb on some black people at the Laugh Factory. I certainly didn’t think his tirade was at all funny. Despite his attempts to apologize, it seems the general consensus is that he is a racist.  Maybe he is, and maybe he isn’t. Since then, he’s been the butt of many jokes on late night television and that probably won’t end anytime soon. This whole incident brings up a good point:

Family members are allowed to badmouth each other, but no one else can–Keep that in mind. Black people can call each other the “N” word if they so choose, but anyone else who does must realize there is a fine line between “really funny” and “racism”.
That said, leave the “N” word to Paul Mooney (or maybe not?).
Leave the Honkey jokes to Jeff Foxworthy.
Leave the Mexican jokes to Carlos Mencia.
Leave the Jewish Jokes to Mel Brooks.

Oddly enough, sales of the 7th season of Seinfeld have gone up. Sad. There’s an old adage that states “There’s no such thing as bad publicity”, –And this is pretty bad publicity.
I’ll end with a quote taken from The Family Guy: “Brothers and sisters fighting is as natural as a white man’s dialogue in a Spike Lee movie.”

Be good to each other.

Give your ad campaign the “O Face” treatment

September 14th, 2006

Give it the
I was at a bar with some coworkers when one of them mentioned having an “inappropriate response”. I thought it was an hilarious expression. The image above immediately came to mind. Feel free to use this in any ad campaign you may be wanting to launch. Don’t get mad at me if you get sued for using Greg Pitts’ likeness without his permission.
Here’s the PSD version if you want to tweak it up. Have fun, and please at least give me attribution somewhere if you use it.

Paris Hilton Can’t Sing

August 29th, 2006

I can’t believe Paris Hilton released a CD. That seems like the biggest waste of time. She’s not going on tour, and I seriously doubt she really cares about her music career. I’m also pretty sure she can’t sing live.

The only way I would ever listen to a Paris Hilton song is if I was poisoned and the ingredients to the antidote were hidden in her lyrics. (Thanks wwtdd)

Relative Happiness Vs. Work Hours

August 15th, 2006

Workload Vs. Happiness.Tonight I prepared a rather detailed and complicated graph depicting how the increase in work hours has an affect on the relative happiness on a person. I conducted extensive research and asked well over 4 people if they felt my findings were true– All respondants indicated yes. This leads me to believe without a doubt that my findings are an absolute truth. My findings state that as the workload of a person increases (in this case, the number of hours said person is required to work each day) the relative happiness decreases. I also found that the relative happiness is inverse to the number of hours worked, and that it forms a nice looking curve. Imagine that!? (Excel is good at making neat lines)
I decided to post this after working this weekend, and working 16 hours today at work. Excuse me if this post is incoherent.

Mark Ruffalo and Fred Savage could be brothers

August 9th, 2006

Mark Ruffalo and Fred SavageIt is my (somewhat candid) belief that Mark Ruffalo and Fred Savage could be brothers. Hollywood, if you’re reading this, hire me as a casting director. I’d be awesome at the job. I can pick these out all day long.

I bet Mark got his start because he looked like Savage, but that’s just a guess.

You may know Mark Ruffalo from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or from Collateral, but I know him as the guy who lost out in the role of Kevin Arnold to Fred Savage in The Wonder Years. Ok Maybe not. I do wonder if they looked alike as kids though. The Wonder Years was probably the most amazing TV show I ever saw as a child and I miss still miss it.

Savage is still working. It’s good to see child actors make it. He’s been all over the T.V. since his departure from The Wonder Years. He was in Austin Powers (Goldmember). “Moley moley moley…”.

He’s also appeared on Saturday Night Live and was in Mooseport. He’s been busy. I wonder if he’ll ever get around to marrying Winnie Cooper? They were meant for each other.

Contemporary Management 101

August 3rd, 2006

Kevin's Birthday desk.Today I questioned myself. I wasn’t sure if I was a good manager or not. I haven’t been a manager long, and after what I did today I might not be a manager much longer.

I decided to dig around online for what other people think it takes to be a good manager and after much introspection, I have come to the conclusion that I am, in fact, a good manager–at least in some respects. I like to have fun and I like my guys at work to have fun.

Let’s take a look at what some website I found today considers to be good traits of a manager:

[Some] management qualities to look for:

  • Action-oriented
  • Approachable
  • Able to deal with ambiguity
  • A sense of humor (CHECK!)

Yeah, I think i have a pretty good sense of humor. At least I have one of the four traits as a manager. Case in point: One of my employees, Kevin, has a birthday tomorrow. I and another one of my employees decided to give him a birthday “present”. We wanted the present to be big, and not necessarily costly for us. Well, the office has plenty of chairs, so we thought it’d be a great idea to give him some…or a bunch. We even neatly stacked them on and around his desk for him. That way when he gets in tomorrow he will certainly see his present.
Another thing: for some reason Kevin is an Abe Vigoda fan. I don’t know why, but I think it’s funny. So I decided to print a really big picture of Abe and stick it on his door. That’s really nice right?

By the way, if you’re wondering if Abe is alive, check here

Here are the two pictures of Kevin’s desk area: [Picture 1], [Picture2]

Ze Frank is Funny!

July 31st, 2006

Ze Frank is Funny
Ze Frank
is damn funny. He’s probably the best Vlogger online.

I’ve been watching “The Show” since inception and it has been a wild ride. “The Show” is what Ze calls his daily vlog. It’s a fast-paced rundown of local and world news, and pretty much whatever else Ze wants to talk about.

One of the things I love about “The Show” is how sophomoric it can be at times, and other times be so incredibly witty and inspiringly-intelligent.

So, start watching the show and if you hear “Are they gone yet?” know that he’s talking about you, the new viewer.

Sit back, make a world sandwich, join the ORG, make a chess move, come up with a power move, and don’t become a hard-charger. Ze will do the thinking, so you don’t have to.

Mrs. Clinton Vs. Video games

July 30th, 2005

Steven Johnson of the L.A. Times recently wrote one of the greatest Op/Ed pieces I’ve ever read. This opinion piece is a take on Hillary Clinton’s call for a $90-million dollar study into the (negative) effects of video games on children. Most interesting to me in the article is the distinction between games of old that children used to play like Go-fish and Monopoly and games today on the Xbox and the Playstation. He points out that the old games didn’t require much thought from children and that the children could easily be beatn, but the new games require the ability to master challenging new interfaces, the ability to learn complex rule systems, and hand-eye coordinat. Most parents wouldn’t last 10 minutes against their kids playing these games.

Another very interesting excerpt is the following:

On to the issue of aggression, and what causes it in kids, especially teenage boys. Congress should be interested in the facts: The last 10 years have seen the release of many popular violent games, including “Quake” and “Grand Theft Auto”; that period has also seen the most dramatic drop in violent crime in recent memory. According to Duke University’s Child Well-Being Index, today’s kids are less violent than kids have been at any time since the study began in 1975. Perhaps, Sen. Clinton, your investigation should explore the theory that violent games function as a safety valve, letting children explore their natural aggression without acting it out in the real world.

This article challenges Hillary’s assertion that these “violent” video games are truly bad for children. I happen to disagree with Mrs. Clinton, and I feel our hard-earned dollars could be better spent studying something else—like a cure for cancer or AIDS.

Update: Even Maddox has chimed in on this rediculous fear of video games.

Abbas Cleans House. Reaffirms promise of peace

April 23rd, 2005

It looks as though Abbas is serious about peace in the Gaza strip and the greater area.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has forced hundreds in Yasser Arafat’s security force to retire.
He also named three new heads for the security forces.

It is no secret that many people in Palestine and Israel have considered Arafat’s security forces to be corrupt and incompetent,
so this is a good move in the direction of peace.

Abbas even pushed out Yasser Arafat’s cousin. Abbas promised good pensions for those retiring, to dissuade revolt and to quell any opposition.
