Slowpoke Rodriguez Part II

January 30th, 2006

About this time last year, I posted an article requesting some Slowpoke Rodriguez audio clips, and a couple of very nice people have submitted some files. You can listen to them here!

The internet is *painfully* devoid of Slowpoke clips, both audio or video. Not even Google Video has any clips of him. I miss the guy. here’s what I’ve learned from Geoff Mukhtar:

The Cartoon Network refuses to air any of the Speedy Gonzales films since the lead character is an “offensive ethnic stereotype” of Mexicans. However, Speedy Gonzales cartoons are still shown on a regular basis on Cartoon Network Latin America where, according to spokesperson Laurie Goldberg, they are “hugely popular”.

I never knew cartoon network to be ’sensitive’ to this sort of thing. I’ve seen some racy things on the cartoon network. I can’t believe they would ban Speedy and Slowpoke. I’m incensed.

I Implore the Cartoon network to reconsider their policy.

Rotten.com also has an interesting article describing all manner of Banned cartoons.

I didn’t know they banned Speedy and Slowpoke! That stuff was hilarious. I always took it as more a poke at those that ARE racist towards Mexicans. Kinda like what Mel Brooks did in Blazing Saddles. This is the same cartoon network who shows Foxy Brown and Superman basically having sex on a show called “Drawn Together”? Crazy….

This kind of thing always reminds me of babies.

If a baby falls on the floor and is obviously not hurt, the first thing it does is look to the authority figure to see its reaction. If the authority figure looks concerned and saying things like “are you ok????” The baby starts to scream its head off and cry to be taken care of.

If the authroity figure does not look concerned and says something like “Hey, great trick you did!” The baby dusts itself off and laughs.

Same thing with the babies in our society. If there crying can give them attention or some kind of “reward” by seeing that the goverment or business will respond to them….they cry there heads off and the rest of us have to change for them over nothing…and this teaches them to cry over EVERYTHING.

If you say no, looks like you are having a good time….they laugh at the cartoon with the rest of the hispanic world and go about there happy way.

It’s time Americans of all creeds had a backbone and said no to the babies.

They should be proud of Speedy as a role model for others Mexicans in their pursuit of a speedier entry through the wide gaps in our border.

to me it was just a cartoon… I remember watching it growing up, so I do not know why they would stop it now. It was funny though. I do not like Daffy Duck very much though, if you guys have ever seen a show called ‘Tiny Toons’, then I can tell you that I liked the little duck in that show, but i do not like Daffy.

Personally, I DEMAND that the demeaning cartoons of Bugs Bunny in drag no longer be shown, out of respect for transvestites.

If I had a lisp or were otherwise speech impaired, I’d be greatly offended by both Sylvestor the Cat and by Tweetie Bird. Suffering Succotash! And while we’re ta ta ta talking… I think they use Porkie Pig and Foghorn Leghorn as comedic tools… garnering disdainful laughs at the expense of their stuttering and southern accent.

I don’t want to hear anything about Batman and Robin in that way… I grew up watching every new cartoon they came up with, with those two characters… don’t bash them please, you are ruining my childhood memories. I used to watch them every morning and when I got home from school, my childhood mostly consisted of t.v. so anything involving the Simpson’s, Batman and Robin, and Home Improvement is a good memory to me.

BTW, Ren and Stimpy… I used to watch that show too, due to my two brothers, but it never caught on with me… kinda stupid, and kinda gross, made for a guy’s mind I guess.

They both wore tights ditto…….both led closeted lives………….Neither were married or had a steady girlfriend……..VERY homoerotic………It was like a comic book version of Brokeback Mountain.
