Amazon.com and Abortion/Adoption

April 12th, 2006

I found out through Ze Frank (www.zefrank.com) that if you type in the word “abortion” in the search box at amazon.com, it would ask if you meant “Adoption”. That was true until 3/21/2006. A spokesperson for Amazon said that the prompt appeared because adoption/abortion were the same except for two keystrokes. Users who type in “Abortion” will still see “adoption” in the related searches area, while users who type in the word “adoption” will not see “abortion” in the related searches area.

Very interesting, Amazon.

thats weird… sounds a little planned out. I hate that companies and stuff take political stances on issue relating to matters such as these.

Sure it is planned out, and there is nothing wrong with it especially if they have selections that deal with both issues. Planned Parenthood tells young ladies to call them to discuss you options, then tell them abortion is the best one.

I think there should be better organizations that actually tell these women the other options as well instead of just preaching Abortion to prove a point

we cant just hate it when companies take a stance on a politcal issue that We dont agree with. Especially you ramdac, becuase you talk about freedoms so much. You have the right to not patron Amazon anymore, just like they have to right to show women both options. Remember the PC Nazi

Hey Joey! So that first comment on this article says its form RAMDAC but its actually from me… I accidently posted on his name and didn’t realize it… Jason will fix it later today so its under my name instead of his.

The reason why I hate it is because of this situation with my dad. He refuses to eat at, go to, or drink any pepsi owned drinks, restaurants, or anything related to Pepsi at all!!!! Because Pepsi took a political stance on the Gun Issue, and if citizens should have them.

My father being a marine, naval officer, and an active member of the NRA, and goes hunting, and shooting, thinks that citizens should be able to, and that companies shouldn’t dictate what the American people should or should not have rights to.

If I want to drink a pepsi product or eat at Taco Bell or any other place that Pepsi is served, then I want to be able to do it without feeling that I am letting my dad down, or thinking about the company and how it angers me that they are telling me not to own a gun, while I am sitting there drinking their products.

Your dad should be appaulded because he is doing the right thing. not because Pepis is wrong (Even though the are) but because he has the right to do it. I believe anyone can say whatever they want as long as they are willing to stand behind it. Amazon isnt wrong IF they have an opinion. The question is how offended you are, and what you are willing to do about it.

Based on the story though I dont believe that they are choosing sides, but just showing options. Maybe the thinking is that if someone is looking for abortion as an option, they could be reminded that adoption is a vaible option if you dont want to kill the baby.

What is wrong with a company establishing an opinion if they are willing to stand behind it?

To me… its like my dad… not wanting to eat or drink Pepsi’s stuff because of their stance… I mean I don’t want to have to go to a restaurant before hand and research what prodcuts they sell before I eat there. People shouldn’t have to worry about things like that. Big Business is a good thing, but not when it comes to politics, and what the people should have rights too. Some business’ do the right thing, some don’t, and I think that some companies take it too far.

An example of that is Amazon, or Pepsi Co.

Do companies which are comprived of Americans have the right to an opinion?

You are easily bothered by others opinions (which is ok) then you will have a life full of debate are obviously research.

I have strong opinions especially about abortion, and if amazon decides to remove all books that have to do with adoption then I would probably be upset. Have they removed the Abortion books?

    Greatest President Ronald Reagan Said:
“Abortion is advocated only by persons who have themselves been born.”

I think that the persons working for the company are entitled to an opinion and should share it… but a company as a whole shouldn’t because its saying that the whole company feels that way… when they don’t.

I think that people should be entitled to believe what they want, especially when it deals with abortion or adoption. I just think that all the options should be available, and not hidden or covered up. That Amazon shouldn’t hide the options, or the choices that people have the right to make.

Did amazon “hide” the abortion books or just show that they have adoption books as well?

Maybe they assume if someone is contemplating abortion they are also have adoption on the mind as well.

I searched amazon and it pulled up 3228 matches for abortion. it also says realted searches include adoption, pro-choice, pro-life. I do not personally feel this is amazon taking a stance
