Palestinians not satisfied with Gaza pullout?

September 13th, 2005

Apparently, Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza strip wasn’t enough to satisfy Palestinians, at least not the hard-liners. CNN (and others) showed video footage of Jewish Temples being burned and purported the fires to have been started by Palestinians. These were temples that had been abandoned because of the forced withdrawal of Gaza. This gave the more angry of the Palestinians a “field day” on places of Jewish worship.

Palestinians are worried about the practical consequences of a withdrawal that has left issues such as the regime at border crossings unresolved. Israel continues to insist that it wants to maintain control over movement of goods and people between Gaza and Egypt by closing the main passenger terminal at Rafah for at least six months.

There are many questions left unanswered by the withdrawal, and Ariel Sharon insists that it can still re-invade Gaza (if attacked).

It seemed to me from the beginning that the pullout was not going to be enough for the Palestinians. I think it was a big step for Isreal to pullout out of Gaza, and if that wasnt enough then tough. I think Isreal has to maintain some level of control because we all know that every country will work together to destroy Isreal. Hamas even said as much during the pullout.

I tend to be pro-Isreal, but this does seem like give an inch take a mile scenario.

Someone please explain to me why the Jewish settlers had to leave in the first place! Are they not legal citizens? Were they not born there?

    Ditto,

There is a dispute over who actually owns the land. If I am correct (someone correct me if I am wrong), The Jewish People believe it is there God given land, however the Arabs believe Alah gives them the right to the Land. It is basically a religious dispute.

The land dispute over the Gaza strip is a fight that has been going on since the times of Christ. The fight over Jerusalem is included in these fights, of course. the Jewish people were there of course since forever ago, but the Sarasins fought the Christians to take Jerusalem over (long after the death of Christ) — that’s how I understand it at least. Anyway, Since modern times, Israel has been able to overtake it back, and they have a valid argument to be there. Some argue that Palestinians have an equal right to be there since the Dome of the Rock is both a Jewish Temple and was used as one of the most holy Muslim Mosques. This Dome of the Rock is held by both Jews and Muslims as a very sacred and holy place for both their religions. It only gives fuel to the already vicious fire.

Yeah, and now they say Al Quaeda is moving people in to Gaza. Also, the Israelis are still maintaining some border control and flow of goods/services through one of the main transport terminals.

I think it was monumental for the Israelis to give up Gaza. The Palestinians played along to gain the concession, and now are showing their asses as a big “fuck you” to Israel and the rest of the world that is trying to support their notion of a separate legitimate statehood.

Yeah, Isreal was able to overtake and maintain control with kick arse weapons donated by the US of A, Which I support completely. Isreal will probably get pissed off, and take Gaza back before it is all said and done, especially if the Al Queda Bastards start blowing stuff up.

“Al Quaeda is moving people in to Gaza.”

When you say this, do you mean the Jewish settlers they just forced out? So Isreal wants border control of goods, and such, and right now who has control of it? The Jewish settlers? Al Quaeda? or the Palestinians?

Isreal has control over the border, Palestinians have the land, Al Queda are sending in Terrorists to disrupt the Peace process.

But why should the jewish settlers be kicked out… I don’t think that it is right… I mean its thier home… did they come there illegally is what my question is now?

Brandy, think of it like this:

Let’s say Pres. Bush moved people out of certain parts of Oklahoma so he could give the land back to the Native Americans — that’s sorta what Ariel Sharon is doing. The likeness of the situation lies within the fact that Sharon (who is Jewish, obviously) forced his own people out of Gaza. The difference here is that he’s giving it to people he doesn’t believe are the rightful owners of that land. He’s doing it to appease the populace of Palestine and try to broker a peace deal between Israel and Palestine. The problem is that the Palestinians probably won’t care that Sharon was making an effort for Peace– They think the land was theirs to begin with and could care less about the people who were forced to move out.

Exactly, because the Palestinians really want all the land, not just Gaza. I think the only Reason Sharon did it was because Isreal couldnt really control Gaza anyway. That is where most of the problems occured.

oh… that is a better explaination than before… this time it actually made an impact, and not the blank stare I gave the computer screen last time…jk

I like Jason’s point I hadn’t thought about before. The Palestinians don’t really care WHY the Israelis pulled out. The played nice and semi-diplomatic leading up the the pull-out concession. But now they’re flipping everyone the bird and continuing a hardline approach.

Million bucks the Israelis are back within a year, refreshed troops dripping in the latest American technology, equipment, and training.

“Pulled out”… heh hah. I remember the Bill Clinton days where everything political had a sexually charged double entendre.
