Apple has a Mighty Mouse now

August 2nd, 2005

Shown in this photo provided by Apple Computer Inc. is the new “Mighty Mouse”. Apple Computer Inc. unveiled a new computer mouse Tuesday Aug. 2, 2005 that features a tiny scroll ball and four sensors, a departure from the company’s traditional mouse that has always featured one button. Apple’s new “Mighty Mouse” looks very similar to the mouse’s that the company has produced for years. The most obvious difference is the relatively tiny scroll ball at the mouse’s head.

In lieu of actual buttons beyond the scroll ball, the optical-scanning mouse has four sensors that can be programmed for multiple actions, just like the left and right buttons on many PC mouses.

With this, Apple is once again cutting out the differences between itself and the PC market out there. Just a few short months ago, in May, Apple announced they’d stop using IBM chips and will go to supporting x86, Intel chips, which power more than 80% of computers out there today.

Long as when you hit the button it does what it is supposed to do. That is all that matters to me.

Yeah, Ryanh, The best thing about a mouse is that it works. That is why it is called point and click.

    mmmm - Not always.

You ever get one of those junky mouses from some off brand or one that is going out prematurely?

You end up having to move it repeatedly in the direction you want the cursor to go and for the single left click becomes a triple left mash. Very frustrating experience.

What I was getting at is, long as these features actually work and work well, it should be cool.

At work the mouse I use you don’t move… it just has this circular ball on the side that you move to point the cursor… then it has like normal the left and right clickers. But this thing is double or triple the size of a normal mouse. like a rat almost… a rat point and clicker.

    Jimvford,

I am 19, and I have no idea what rollerball is… and if I do, i don’t realize that is what it is. Right now, I cannot think of what it is, not a single clue at the moment.

i came up with a few things with an internet search… a type of inline skate, featuring balls instead of wheels.

Then I found something about a movie called rollerball, in which they are in a ring throwing a ball and something about motorcycles, idk what thats about but i watched part of the trailor for it.

then apparently their is a band called rollerball that has several albulms out.

then of course rollerball pens… which are reusable

then their is a rollerball game for playstation or something

then thier are rollerball speakers… that look kinda funky to me

something about a rollerball for you PDA whatever that is for idk

then I ofund a bunch of sites in french, and didn’t feel like wasteing time to translate them.

so which one if any is this rollerball thing? My best bet is the stupid movie which was made is 1975, and 2002.

Ramdac just told me that it was the movie… so I was kinda right after doing research but still didn’t come ot me right away

Actually.. I was thinking of roller dirby. Where those men and women on skates with tight hot pants in the 70’s skated around a track beating the crap out of each other.

You’re a very studious person Ditto. Good research.

rollerdirby… heard of it don’t know what it is. Never watched it.

Ohhh - I HATE trackballs. I’ll take a wireless optical mouse with scroll wheel anyday.

Oh Rollerderby kicks arse. The old verson was awesome. Two teams competed, the teams got points if there runner made full rotations on the track. The other teams blockers would try to beat the crap out of the other teams runners before they could make a rotation. Usually both teams would just fight all they way down the track. Very funny stuff.

I agree… can’t stand a track ball. Have tried and tried to get used to them… as they’re supposed to be better to combat repetitive stress syndrome. But I just can’t stand ‘em.

Least I finally mastered the touch pad on my laptop last year.

From the preview I saw of the movie (the one that came out in 2002) I know its something that I’d only watch if I were forced to. It sounds dumb, another Napolean Dynamite movie. Not even stupid funny, but just stupid. I hated that movie too, but I’d rather watch that then rollerball.

Rollerball must be a movie similar to Torque, or some dumb racing movie. A waste of two hours, and a you probably kill 2 brain cells watching it, and gain 3 brain cells filled with pointless information about a sport (if you call it that) that sucks.

  20. ramdac said:

    August 5th, 2005 at 12:19 pm

I still say you’re wrong for not liking Napoleon Dynamite, but I guess there’s no accounting for taste is there?

  21. ditto50997 said:

    August 5th, 2005 at 1:06 pm

Their are a lot of bad movies out there, and Napolean Dynamite is one of them. Not top on the list, but its up there. I would rather watch it then some other movies, but Its not something that I’d just say, “hey lets watch Napolean Dynamite” without joking, or just being sassy.

I guess it might have to do with the circumstances for when I did see the movie, but I still don’t think that its worth an emmy, or any award for that matter. i’d be greatly suprised if the guy who playied napolean will be seen in any other movies of actual quality.

This website below gives an accurate view of the movie. Doesn’t seem exciting to me. Anyone who reads this and finds it appealing has serious brain damage, and the fact that you ramdac find this so entertaining is shocking to me! Someone with your intelligence shouldn’t be this easily amused.

    BTW, I have great taste!

Thats very critical considering they make different movies for different people. Intelligence has nothing to do with taste in movies. I personally dont watch movies to stimulate my mind, but to be entertained. I will try just about any genre of movies, as long as it isnt the Notebook, or crap like that.

Spaceballs or Office Space are examples of legendary funny movies. Both are retarded though, but very funny.

    I whole-heartedly agree.

  24. ditto50997 said:

You are right Joey. I was being overly critical and did say something that was rather ignorant. We all have different taste. But I’m not the onlyone bashing about taste here, Jason bashes my taste too.

Are you asking me if my brother has ever bashed my taste in something. In 26 years, what do you think.

  28. ditto50997 said:

Ya, I was being sarcastic… I knew the answer to that, just by being a part of this site it tells me the difference in opinions clash often.

Its just funny to hear about them.

I hate to break rank with my brother males… but Napolean Dynamite, or however it is spelled… is quite possibly the WORST movie off all time. If you could have a highlight reel of the funny moments and sound bites, it would take up 3 minutes. I rented the movie after the howling adulation provided by my coworkers and friends. Yet it had absolutely no plot, no story, nothing to follow, it was more than retarded… more like inane.

I LOVE some stupid movies… Dude Where’s My Car, SpaceBalls, Harold and Kumar, Blazing Saddles, etc. etc. I couldn’t force myself to like ND.

Nothing to do with intelligence. Just a difference in taste. I guess movies like ND… you either “get” or you don’t.

  32. ditto50997 said:

finally someone who agrees! Just as long as your not agreeing just to be agreeing.

  33. jimvford said:

No no.. .I actually took it back to the rental place and asked for a free rental for my trouble. The clerk actually GAVE me another rental for free… smiled and said, “I told ya yesterday”

Dont get me wrong Jimvford. Except for the “get your on tots”, The grapefruit throwing, the solo dance, and pedro the movie did suck. I could not stop laughing when that dude in the classroom kick ND’s tator tots. It was definitely not an instant classic, but I have seen worse.

There were some semi funny moments. I just can’t follow a movie without ANY plot or storyline.
