The Iraq situation: Vietnam II

August 21st, 2005

The U.S. Army is preparing to keep more than 100,000 soldiers in Iraq for four years or more if need be, a top general has said, drawing expressions of confusion and frustration from senior senators who said the administration was sending mixed signals about how long U.S. forces would remain.

The longer we stay there in Iraq, the more our presence will contribute to the growing groundswell of terrorism there. It is what Donald Rumsfeld once said of this Iraq situation “We are in a slog”. This is just like Vietnam. We’re fighting an uphill battle. The longer we stay, the longer it’ll take us to eventually pull out.

BTK killer is jailed for 175 years

August 20th, 2005
  • Boy Scout Leader
  • Church Congregation President
  • Rapist, Murderer

Yeah, I’m talking about the BTK Killer–Dennis Rader. He killed 10 people over 17 years. He said:
“I know the victims’ families will never be able to forgive me. I hope somewhere deep down, eventually that will happen.”
Did he just contradict himself?

Well, he got 175 years in prison. Too bad he won’t live that long.

Is my ass supposed to be sore?

August 8th, 2005

Today, my ass took a pounding. This pounding was given to me by a bicycle seat not much bigger than an overzied banana. The offending seat can be seen to the left of this article. This is a “Specialized Hardrock” mountain bike. I got it today and took it for a ride. Or rather, it took me for a ride. Ouch!

It gave me a “fag-flash”. For those who don’t know, a “fag-flash” is one of those times in which one says to oneself “wow, this is what it must feel like to be a fag”. Disclaimer: If you aren’t a fag, a “fag-flash” is a bad thing. A bad thing indeed.
That’s OK though, I had protection. I had a Gyro cranium-condom (aka helmet). Not that it helped my ass though.

Aside from the sore ass it was a fun bike ride. This particular bike can be obtained for about $350. The front-end has a 3″ give to it, and is surprisingly light (for a mountain bike). If you’re to get into mountain biking, give this bike a chance.

Apple has a Mighty Mouse now

August 2nd, 2005

Shown in this photo provided by Apple Computer Inc. is the new “Mighty Mouse”. Apple Computer Inc. unveiled a new computer mouse Tuesday Aug. 2, 2005 that features a tiny scroll ball and four sensors, a departure from the company’s traditional mouse that has always featured one button. Apple’s new “Mighty Mouse” looks very similar to the mouse’s that the company has produced for years. The most obvious difference is the relatively tiny scroll ball at the mouse’s head.

In lieu of actual buttons beyond the scroll ball, the optical-scanning mouse has four sensors that can be programmed for multiple actions, just like the left and right buttons on many PC mouses.

With this, Apple is once again cutting out the differences between itself and the PC market out there. Just a few short months ago, in May, Apple announced they’d stop using IBM chips and will go to supporting x86, Intel chips, which power more than 80% of computers out there today.
