Bewick: The Man, the Myth, the hoax?

June 25th, 2005

Bewick Cory– Who is he? A Man? A Myth? A Hoax? That question is still unanswered, and probably always will be. For those who don’t know the story, please read this post first, It gives some background into who Bewick Cory is (or was).

Since that last post, some interesting and amusing developments have been made. Probably the most entertaining event that has happened so far, at least for me, is that a wikipedia article has been spawned. Trust me, I had no part in writing this. When someone directed me to it, I fell out of my chair. Here’s the article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bewick_Cory

The other event of note is on joshmanning’s website: Bewick’s Death described

This article lists some rather peculiar happenings with regards to Bewick’s supposed “death”. There’s even a place for comments to go for that story.

Lastly, many people both acquaintances and otherwise, have told me that they believe that Bewick is alive and well and is posting under the assumed name (on this site) as “Dr Marlon Rene”. I am not sure what to make of this, but I am at least somewhat hesitant to doubt them, because the “doctor’s” writing style mirrors Bewick’s exactly, and they have posted from the Same IP addresses / browsers since they both started writing. Even Bewick’s wife posted once, and she posted from the “doctor’s” house I guess.

It all seems a little bit too coincidental for me. That’s why some research was done by a friend of mine. Here is what was uncovered:

Here is a list of all the names that Bewick Cory has used:
Bewick Cory
John Weyers (yahoo profile: http://profiles.yahoo.com/jjw2723)
Dr. Marlon Rene

Here are the related posts on yahoo linking Bewick to John or otherwise isightful stuff:

1. Article 1 John makes a post
2. Article 2 John admits he’s Bewick
3. Article 3 Bewick Revealed again
4. Article 4 Bewick gets slammed
5. Article 5 Bewick admits using pen name

That’s all for now, but I’m quite sure there are more out there waiting to get discovered.
I’m pretty sure Bewick/John/Dr. Marlon won’t be happy about me posting all this information, but it needed to be done.

Social Insecurity: The Ticking Time Bomb

Social Insecurity: The Ticking Time bomb

They say we have until 2017 to “fix” Social Security. I say we better start now.
However, I think Washington politicians in general suffer from a sort of “credit” problem. Now, I’m not saying this affects them all, but I do believe it affects enough of them to cause a problem. I’ll explain what I mean. People love to take credit for things, and it’s no different in politics. Politicians want to have their name behind a bill that changes our political and social landscape. They’re willing to go to such extremes as to curtail the efforts of others.

I think this is where we are at with Democrats and Republicans. One side tries to do a good thing while the other side calls them Nazi’s. And one side tries to do a good thing, while the other accuses of ‘bait and switch’ tactics.

While some of it might be true, we need to start working together on things. Politicians could learn a thing or two from Robert Yates: “It is amazing what can be accomplished when nobody cares about who gets the credit.

Take our looming Social Security issue. It needs to be fixed. The Bush administration wants badly to push through this idea of “personal accounts” while Democrats (and even other Republicans) say this is an incredibly stupid idea—They’re probably right.

It doesn’t take away from the fact that there is a problem and the two sides need to sit together to find a meaningful solution.

Deadly Immunities? Rolling Stones reports

June 20th, 2005

Is the mercury in the vaccines given to your children indicating a link between thimerosal and speech delays, attention-deficit disorder, hyperactivity and autism?

“In June 2000, a group of top government scientists and health officials gathered for a meeting at the isolated Simpsonwood conference center in Norcross, Georgia. Convened by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the meeting was held at this Methodist retreat center, nestled in wooded farmland next to the Chattahoochee River, to ensure complete secrecy. The agency had issued no public announcement of the session — only private invitations to fifty-two attendees. There were high-level officials from the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration, the top vaccine specialist from the World Health Organization in Geneva and representatives of every major vaccine manufacturer, including GlaxoSmithKline, Merck, Wyeth and Aventis Pasteur. All of the scientific data under discussion, CDC officials repeatedly reminded the participants, was strictly “embargoed.” There would be no making photocopies of documents, no taking papers with them when they left.”

“I doubted that autism could be blamed on a single source, and I certainly understood the government’s need to reassure parents that vaccinations are safe; the eradication of deadly childhood diseases depends on it. I tended to agree with skeptics like Rep. Henry Waxman, a Democrat from California, who criticized his colleagues on the House Government Reform Committee for leaping to conclusions about autism and vaccinations. “Why should we scare people about immunization,” Waxman pointed out at one hearing, “until we know the facts?”

I’ve heard of mercury in fish and dental work, but not in my vaccines. This is scary, and if I were a parent, I’d be worried sick about it damaging my child. I am shocked by this!

Who’s this BEEWICK Cory anyway?

June 18th, 2005

It seems lately that everyone is fixated on this “BEEWICKCORY” issue. To bring you up to speed if you don’t know already, a guy named “Bewick Cory” used to post on this site. I didn’t always agree with what he had to say but I always liked that he felt the need to post comments, and even a couple of interesting politically-charged articles. I even saved a few stories he sent me. I haven’t posted them yet, but I might do it soon, just to honor his memory (if he is in fact dead). That’s right, there is some question to that.

A couple of weeks ago we started getting posts from a user called “BEEWICKCORY”. At first, I thought Beewick Cory was back. A couple days later, I got an email from this Doctor, Dr. Marlon Rene. He said that I had sunk to a new low allowing these posts from an imposter, and that Bewick had in fact died in Brazil.

Anyway, I was busy all week with work, and apparently some commenters thought I was trying to hide or protect the impostor. Some of you people need to realize I have a job and that maintaining this blog isn’t always my top priority.

I did some analyzing of the logs, and I came up some ideas about who the impostor(s) might be. I looked at the access logs and the IP addresses/browser signatures attached to the comments posted by BEEWICK. Here are the numbers:

Username Count of Posts IP Address Browser Signature
BEEWICKCORY 14 67.128.6*.* Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)
BEEWICKCORY 4 68.206.17*.* Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)
JoshM 2 67.128.6*.* Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050317 Firefox/1.0.2
JoshM 11 68.206.17*.* Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.6) Gecko/20050317 Firefox/1.0.2
JoshM 4 68.206.17*.* Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.7) Gecko/20050414 Firefox/1.0.3
ryanh 14 67.128.6*.* Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)
ryanh 13 68.206.17*.* Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322)

(the IPs were slightly masked, but they are the same. I just didn’t want any ne’er do wells to try and hack these IP addresses)

These results seem to incriminate Ryanh. JoshM seems to be using Gecko while ryanh’s browser matches that of Bewick perfectly. This is fairly incriminating evidence. One of you should fess up :)

The Cows Are Going Mad

June 12th, 2005

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has confirmed that a recent test performed on a Cow in the U.S. has has tested positive for “BSE”, or Mad Cow Disease.

The governmentis being curiously tight-lipped about this discovery and hasn’t yet released any other details about this cow. This discovery comes at at ime when Agriculture Department officials have been pressing Japan and Korea to resume buying beef from the United States. Japan and Korea were major buyers of American beef up until late 2003 when a cow from Washington State was found to have the disease.

Who can blame those countries? I’m wondering what kind of affect this will have on the local beef market, much less the foreign market. I have even considered switching away from beef.

Kerry Vs. Bush in a contest of smarts

June 8th, 2005

My brother, Joey, sent me an URL from foxnews.com detailing the intellectual bravado (or lack thereof) of Mr. John Kerry.

Having noticed the URL had something to do with kerry–I knew, coming from my brother, that it probably wouldn’t be a “news item” (and I use that term loosely) in a favorable light for Kerry.

I had a good laugh though. It appears as though Kerry did just as abhorrently at Yale as our President, Mr. George W. Bush. I lost the original link he sent me, but I easily found another. Read on for the intellectual prowess of John Kerry. (that last bit was sarcasm).

Lately, I’ve been thinking of registering a domain something similar to “whogivesashit.com” or “whyisthisnews.com”. Why? Lately it seems that the news agencies are willing to report on damn near anything. What is this — sweeps week? I’ll cite a few examples:

More updates coming soon!

June 5th, 2005

I know. You’re thinking “yeah right”. Honestly though, my powerbook is due to arrive on tuesday or wednesday–just three short days away at most. After that, I’ll be trying to post more stories :)

UPDATE: looks like it won’t be until Thursday. Apparently Apple ships their powerbooks from Shanghai via Fedex. At least I’ll have it by 10AM right?
