The new camera and lens

April 26th, 2005

Well, I did it. What have I done? I finally jumped into the digital SLR market. I bought Canon’s
Digital Rebel (300D). It’s 6.3 megapixels, so that comes out to something bigger than 3000×2400. That’s plenty big for me.

That’s not it though. I couldn’t stop there. I decided that since I was going to the FC Dallas football (see “soccer”) games,
I should get a telephoto zoom lens to take decent pictures of action on the pitch (see “field). It’s a rather sizely lens, but it’ll be worth it.
The equipment is due here in a couple of days, and I can hardly wait. After I take a few decent pictures, I’ll probably start a gallery site, where I’ll feature the work.

500 comments posted!

April 25th, 2005

With the finger story, I reached the 500 comment barrier!
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved that made this possible–Especially Bewick Cory. There was a time I started to become exhausted, but he managed to get me through the tough times.

Special thanks to ramdac for keeping tabs of such things; therefore, allowing me to get on my pedestal now.

Again thanks all

Joey.

Wendys Gives the Finger!

April 23rd, 2005

OK. So Wendy’s didn’t come out with this–I did. But *God* would I love it if they had. This is the kind of advertising that would speak to me. If Wendy’s did come out with an ad campaign similar to this, I would run to Wendy’s and buy a triple cheeseburger, or as I call it “a triple happy-stack”, immediately.
Anyway, I’m sure by now you’ve heard that the lady claiming there was a finger in her chilli, was arrested. The cops are pretty sure she’s lying. If you haven’t seen the Finger lady’s mug shot, check it out.

Abbas Cleans House. Reaffirms promise of peace

April 23rd, 2005

It looks as though Abbas is serious about peace in the Gaza strip and the greater area.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has forced hundreds in Yasser Arafat’s security force to retire.
He also named three new heads for the security forces.

It is no secret that many people in Palestine and Israel have considered Arafat’s security forces to be corrupt and incompetent,
so this is a good move in the direction of peace.

Abbas even pushed out Yasser Arafat’s cousin. Abbas promised good pensions for those retiring, to dissuade revolt and to quell any opposition.

Nugent Rocks the NRA!

April 18th, 2005

Ted Nugent
Unapologetic. Brazen. Rude. Honest. These are some of the words that describe Ted Nugent. I’ve been watching him over the past couple of years and have noticed his language become more and more direct.
He likes guns. He wants everyone to have one. He wants criminals stopped dead in their tracks–literally.

He wants us to be radical extremists. At least with regard to protecting our 2nd amendment rights.

Speaking at the NRA’s annual convention Saturday, Nugent said each NRA member should try to enrol 10 new members over the next year and associate only with other members.

He drew the most cheers when he told gun owners they should never give up their right to bear arms and should use their guns to protect themselves if needed.

“Remember the Alamo! Shoot ‘em!” he screamed to applause. “To show you how radical I am, I want carjackers dead. I want rapists dead. I want burglars dead. I want child molesters dead. I want the bad guys dead.

“No court case. No parole. No early release. I want ‘em dead. Get a gun and when they attack you, shoot ‘em.”

By the way, I joined the NRA today after hearing about all this commotion from Nugent. Go Nugent. Go NRA!

School boy wears makeup, gets suspended.

April 15th, 2005

James Herndon, a California High school student has been suspended for wearing makeup.
He believes his rights have been violated. “If I can’t wear makeup, then the girls or the staff can’t wear makeup either,” he stated.

While I am not a wiccan, nor do I condone his “style” of makeup, I believe he may be onto something here, even if on a technicality.

If it is ok for women to wear makeup, then why not let men wear it too? Some might argue that he isn’t merely wearing makeup, but he is face-painting.

Is this suspension akin to what France is doing with regard to muslim women not being allowed to wear their hijabs? (cover their faces)

Is this a law on secularity and conspicuous religious symbols, or is this something against Wicca? Is this merely an attempt to supress freedom of speech (expression)? I can’t really answer those questions, I am not a lawyer.

However, I do not believe he should have been suspended for “face painting” (or as he calls it, wearing makeup). On a lighter note, I knew tons of girls in high school who went beyond merely “putting on makeup” to a point where I thought they were face painting. It was sick, but I didn’t think they should have been suspended for using too much.

Back to the point…

The school says it suspended him under the dress code rules that disallow anything that distracts from the learning process. You know, this kid is expressing himself. Shouldn’t we LEARN that people can be and have different backgrounds, both in their personal and religious lives? Once we learn to deny our own ignorance and try to embrace our differences, I truly believe that any argument to the fact that he was being a “distraction” could easily be quelled. OK, granted it may be weird, but that isn’t excuse to dismiss him so easily and say that he was being a distraction. For that matter, couldn’t the Arabs use the same argument when we send women over there who aren’t covered?

No, I’m not trying to be a tee-hugging liberal here, but what I am trying to convey is the fact that we can’t take an ego-centric view to society. This is America. We are an ever-changing melting pot. Let’s learn to be accepting already, okay?

I’m Sacramento-bound in May!

April 12th, 2005
Sacramento!
In just under a month’s time, I’ll be flying to Sacramento for a week for some fun in the sun, and some much needed relaxation. Aside from getting what I’m sure will be more than enough sun, what else should I [do/see] in in Sacramento? I’ll have a week to do it so don’t hesitate with your suggestions.

I’ll return with tons of pictures, and if I go to the places you suggest, I’ll post pictures of it–otherwise, I might not.

Dallas and the 2005 St. Patrick Day Block Party

April 11th, 2005

St. Patrick’s day in Dallas is a big deal–Especially where I live. The car in the picture was parked across the street from where I live and the owner of this car can be seen on most Friday evenings and Saturdays roaring up and down the street. I ran up to him and asked if I could take a couple of snaps of the car. He was happy to oblige. Then we headed to the block party.

Every year there is a huge block party just a short walk down the street, and this year was no different. They had the mounted patrol out and everything. It was my first real block party experience in Dallas and I must say it was amazing. My roommate went too. He said it was a *must see*. He was right. People were packed in like sardines on the street, and they were pretty loud. Even the cops were yelling (not at people, just yelling out of apparent happiness).

I hope you enjoyed the pictures from the 2005 St. Patrick’s Day “Greenville Street Block Party”. It was about time I posted these.

ramdac.org is shutting down (April Fools!)

April 1st, 2005

My writing days are over. After much thought on the matter and coming to terms with myself, I’ve decided it’s the best thing to do for my future. I have no time, and no energy anymore to write and was getting tired of the emails….so this is what it has come to.

I thank you all for all for your support over the years and for the many many comments. It has enhanced my life in ways you cannot imagine.

Again, thank you all and God bless.

Update: April fools. :)
