How tsunami form
One of the most powerful earthquakes in history hit Asia Sunday, unleashing a tsunami which devastated coastal areas of Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia and tourist isles in Thailand.
The death toll is over 118,000. That number seems to keep rising, as reports
come in from around the world.

    I read that this thing was so powerful it actually brought the earth’s rotation to a complete stop for about one fraction of a second.

    Actually, you’ve got that backwards. It made the Earth rotate faster by 3 microseconds.
    It also may have shifted the pole an inch and made the Earth wobble a bit more.

    While normally I’d think it repugnant to compete in a time like this, I am glad that nations are competing to give the most in donations. Screw all the loans we’d just forgive later anyway, this is a worldwide disaster of epic proportions.
