Gasoline jumps above $2 a gallon

May 18th, 2004

gas might cost you an arm and a leg
Arms and legs are dropping like flies lately.  Are these high gas prices
OPEC’s way of paying us back for declaring war on Iraq?  Ah, I won’t make
this political, but I will say this:  These gas prices suck–still.
You might remember that I posted
an article
about this a while back.  Nothing has changed since
then.  Gas prices are still climbing.  I think they’ve officially
climbed to the highest point ever.  I may have to think about making an
investment into a motorcycle.  At least that way I’d get decent gas
mileage. But then again I could also die.  I’ll weigh my options some other
day.

It is a very political issue because we could drill our own oil lessening our dependence on foreign oil, but the Democrats wont let us.

    the democrats don’t? haha..whatever.

Those reserves won’t help us much. Those reserves represent about .09 % of what we need.

I am not talking about the reserves, I am talking about drilling in more places.

I should say, as long as gasoline is under, say, $5 a gallon, it’s still way worth it to me to buy it. If I used a bicycle to go to & from work every day, it would mean an extra 30 minutes per day of travel — the economics works out so that if I work that extra 30 minutes instead, I’ll be way further ahead monitarily.

Of course, this doesn’t mean I’m happy to let the oil cartel gouge me for the highest price I’m willing to pay. I would pay $1000 for a Big Mac if I was starving and if McD’s had a monopoly on all food; but, that doesn’t change the fact that a Big Mac is 40cents of raw material.

If you think about it, if the war was about gettign the Oil, wouldn’t Gas prices be lower not higer right now. Maybe there was another goal besides Bush pleasing daddy as it is being said.

Not really. Our supply of it doesn’t necessarily mean lower prices. The OPEC controls the price of oil.
