Gaddafi sets a deadline for the U.S.

January 5th, 2004

Omar GaddafiLibya’s prime minister said on January 1, 2004 that if the United States does not lift sanctions by May 12, Libya will not be bound to pay the remaining $6 million promised to each family of victims killed on Pan Am Flight 103, The New York Times reported. According to the newspaper, Libyan Prime Minister Shokri Ghanem said in an interview that the United States should reward Libya for scrapping its banned weapons programs by lifting the sanctions, which would allow American oil companies to return to Libya this spring and free $1 billion in assets that Libyan officials say are frozen in American banks.
——-
So the truth comes out.  Something tells me he planned this long ago.
He would come out saying Libya was scrapping their weapons program because he
"feared" the U.S. would come after him next when in reality, he wanted
to find a way to lift sactions on Libya early.  This will instantly set his
country on economic rebound and of course American oil would return.
American oil.  Something is fishy there–I’m not sure what.  Is it
possible that The Bush administration used this as a method of economic growth
for the United States as well?  I wonder just how much oil we’d be selling there in
Libya–perhaps it is a rather insignificant amount. I truly hope. Don’t get me wrong, I am all for Economic Growth here in the States, but the end doesn’t justify the means.
Anyway, the banter back and forth between Libya and the United States is just odd
lately.
Update: Bush signed an order today flatly denying the request By Moammar Gaddafi to lift sanctions. Sanctions will be in place as planned.
Apparently it was “widely known” that bush would deny this request, as reported by CNN. It wasn’t known by me. Someone keep me in the loop please.

This comment has absolutely no political substance whatsoever, but as soon as I saw that pic I thought I was seeing an old publicity still of Dustin Hoffman in his Tootsie getup…

    *snicker*

Wow, i did think I was looking at Hoffman.

C’mon Ramdac, you seem to be against everything that helps Our economy. You are such the conspiracy theorist bro.

I’m not against the economy…I’m anything but!

The whole thing just seems odd to me. He comes out touting the disarmament, and follows it up a week later demanding that the United States lift sanctions against his country. Quid pro quo?

Sure it is Quid pro quo, that is what International Affairs are all about. All countries are selfish, it seems we are the only country that isnt supposed to be.
