Crossing paths with a terrorist

June 10th, 2004

I woke up early this morning. I’m not sure why. I got on my computer to check my mail and see who was on IRC at 7AM. To my surprise a message was waiting for me in IRC. Some guy in Turkey was there talking about this, that, and the other thing. Anyway, he ended with a remark saying something rather threatening to the president. I save d the conversation, logged the IP address, and did an ARIN whois lookup on it. I waited until 8:15AM for the local FBI office to open up, and then I called them.

I handed over the information to them like a responsible citizen (just doing my part!). I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised at their professionalism and vigor, but I was. They were very eager to get this information and find out as much as possible. A couple of hours later, I got a call labeled “unknown”. It was the secret service in Washington, D.C.. “WOW” I thought. Amazing how fast these guys operate.

I’ve never spoken to anyone in the secret service before.

By the way, I got a job offer today. Mucho excitement here.

A friend of mine is married to an ex-ATF agent. She tells great stories about interviewing all the wackos who threaten the President. (and those who wear tin foil hats because the satellites are reading their minds)

Sad thing is that the real terrorists will never be seen, much less post crazy crap on the Internet. These people (used liberally) believe taht crap. When you mix religion and politics to such an extreme you get fanaticism.

And the fanatics will kill you in your sleep.

Nice job, though. I’d have called them in too. But I bet your profile has been run as many times as the “terrorist” today. Sometimes I think the citizen cattle like ourselves get the worst end of it. It’s just easier to harrass and control us.

Oh, and congrats on the job!
I knew that talent like yours would not be long on the job market. Too bad the bastards at <company name deleted> couldn’t see that.

My new one will be extraordinary for me, I’m quite sure.

    Funny you should mention that.

I had to report a professor of mine this spring because he told my class he will kill G.W. Bush if he ever sees him…….and stupidly followed that comment up by saying yes, he has the gun to do it.

I was contacted by the Secret Service and asked to provide a statement.

I found out another student was interviewed and confirmed my story.

Whether or not the loon is convicted, much less indicted, is uncertain at this point.

But this professor, who was visiting from Berekely University of all places, will probably be bothered by Secret Service agents anytime he’s within three hours of the president, Democrat or Republican…….and as we all know, presidents like to travel.

Yeah. it’s best not to threaten anyone, much less a government official.

Some people are stupid…or at least ignorant.

I would imagine that the guy from Berkley says he was exercising his right of free speech, and the ACLU is going to defend him.

Six Flags, Hurricane Harbor, and the Bass Pro Shop are great places to visit. Ramdac better br ready for a brother to barge in.

    Hey RamDac,
I read your posting. What sort of job did you get? It is a good thing you have done what you did by notifying the proper authorities. There is no telling what types of freaks are around the corners in this World Wide Web. Sure makes you think some times when you are chatting with someone. I was just interested in finding out what job you landed and if it had anything to do with notifying the proper authorities. Peace out everyone.

Yeah. I got a job, shortly after that post. It has nothing to do with the authorities. I didn’t mean it to sound like it did.
