Backfire: Turning Pickets into Pledges
Taken from Turning Pickets Into Pledges (plannedparenthood.org)
"It’s an ingenious idea." says Planned Parenthood. "Create a no-win situation for anti-choice protesters — the more picketers who demonstrate outside a Planned Parenthood clinic, the more donations the Planned Parenthood clinic receives."
A number of Planned Parenthood affiliates have created different versions of this scenario. Here’s how it works at Planned Parenthood of Central Texas (PPCT) right down the street in Waco, where the Pledge-a-Picket program is going strong: Each time a protester shows up at the clinic, a donation is made to PPCT. “This campaign makes lemonade out of lemons by allowing Planned Parenthood supporters to pledge between 25 cents and one dollar per protester.”
According to organizers, when the program was first launched, some of the protesters would shout, “Count me, count me!” not realizing apparently that they were raising money for the organization they were protesting.

So, if a pregnant woman was among those picketing, would Planned Parenthood count that as one person……….or two?
I’d count two people, just to increase my profits!

Maybe the “count me, count me” protester wasnt really a protestor at all. Maybe they were pro-”choice” and just wanted to raise money.
So I wonder how many protestors are actually protestors now.
Where were the pro abortion activist when Scott Peterson was convicted for Double murder

Some actually were scared this could be a slippery slope.

Personally, IF I was in the habit of protesting…I would not let it deter me from protesting. I would try to get even MORE protestors to go out with me. Think about it. Nobody, really likes giving up money, even for issues you care about. So by protesting, you are making your point and at least sticking SOMEONE in the pocketbook at the same time. Besides, they can’t/won’t keep the giving up on the long term to “protest the protestor”. Eventually, protests will continue and the funds will decline. I would even guess over the long haul it would balance out, because these same people will probably not give again when they normally would…so they will probably take in less later down the road leaving their overall balance about the same. At a minimum it would effect what donations they may give to other causes that the protestors dislike as well…..or hurt ones we might all care about such as (shameless plug) http://www.woundedwarriorproject.org

The Peterson case raised a few questions for me too. Mainly, I was curious regarding the point at which a murdered pregnant woman and her child are considered a “double murder” (as in the Peterson case).
According to my wife the attorney (kinda handy having a lawyer spouse when you need to shed some light on current events), in order for a unborn child to be considered a murder victim in the eyes of the law, it must be termed a “viable fetus”, meaning that it would be able to survive outside the womb had it been born at the time of the mother’s death (this is generally considered to be around the 7th ot 8th month).
That’s the Cliff’s Notes version of course. I’m told that there may be variations depending on the laws of the state in which the murder took place.
And Chris- I got a chuckle out of your idea. I wonder if there were any Planned parenthood folks scanning the crowds looking for visibly pregnant women.
“Hey! That woman looks like she’s having twins! Put her down as three!”
Too funny.

Craiger, That is unfair, I need a lawyer around my house then. MY wife sells Insurance, so If that ever comes up on the site, watch out.
The Rae Carruth story falls in the same category. Carruth shot his girlfried killing her and the 7 month unborn child. He was charged with double murder as well. I think he was aquited for capitol murder but found guilty on lesser charges.
But it does bring the question to mind about abortions past the 7 month right?
RyanH, I would imagine you are right, The money would probably level off anyway. I didnt really see it from that angle.

Hey- an insurance expert is nothing to sneeze at…our agent has been EXTREMELY handy several times over the years as we’ve bought cars, a house, etc. He doesn’t just sell policies- he’s given us a lot of good advice & recommendations.
And as for abortions after the 7th month…is that legal? Does it fall under partial-birth? I’m not up on ther latest legislation, but I thought third-trimester abortion wasn’t permitted unless there was life-threatening medical considerations.

I believe the law is written that way technically, but the law hasnt been upheld in many years. Federal Judges have reinterpreted the law, at least that is the way it has been explained to me. I may be wrong but late term abortions are legal, but Partial birth abortions must fit under medical considerations of the mother.
Did Yall hear about he baby that survived after he was born at 8 ounces. That is crazy, These doctors are getting better and better.

Late term abortions are legal only in certain circumstances… Although illegal abortions are made all the time… I found a web site that explained it all below:
“Grace Medical Care is a private medical practice that performs late second and third trimester therapeutic termination of pregnancy procedures when fetal anomalies and/or genetic defects are found or to protect the physical or psychological health of the woman.” -

maddox had something similar to this, against vegetarians. Sponsor-a-vegetarian. Had shirts made that say “for every animal you don’t eat, I’m going to eat three.”

more funny than effective. I think these things just go further to annoy the target group than actually change their tactics.

I’m a vegetarian, and I find stuff like that funny as hell. People take themselves WAY too seriously.
I’m also a big fan of the “Save a cow, eat a vegetarian” bumper stickers.
