Dish-Pan Diarrhea

A HORRIFIC ILLNESS THAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT!!!!!

In my family, almost everyone suffers from this horrific sickness. It started with my great Aunt Donna, it struck her when she was a small girl. Her family wasn’t rich nor poor, but she was forced to do dishes froma young age, so due to that, she was affected early than the average person. Most people don’t even know that they suffer from this illness.

When it came time to do the dishes Donna would run around the house frantic, she was yelling, crying, and screaming about how she had to use the bathroom. Then after using it, my great grandparents would feel so bad for her that she would be excused from using helping with the dishes. She would go outside come up to the kitchen window and make faces at my grandmother who was forced to now dot he dishes by herself.

That sickness is a dominate trait in my family. I too was ignorant of it until my grandmother told me the story, but all my life I was affected by it. My siblings suffer from the illness, and I was the one forced to do the dishes and the one mocked through the window.

Please share your stories if you too have been affected.

Bush Campaign Alters Image for TV Ad.

October 29th, 2004
Bush Campaign fake image
The Associated Press released the following Image detailing some “work” the Bush campaign did to an image for use in one of their ads.

“The original photograph shows a sea of soldiers sitting behind the president as he stands at a podium just left of the center of the frame. Bush was speaking at Fort Drum in New York on July 19, 2002.” (AP Graphic)

Why was this done? To make it more “racially diverse” or to simply make it look like more people?

Whatever it is…it’s peculiar. This image depicts the very essence of “election year politics”.

update (10/29/2004 5:47 pm): I was just told by someone that this is shouldn’t be a big deal. Apparently, in advertisement, this is done all the time. I guess I’ve just never seen it before in a political campaign. I probably haven’t been looking for it either. How do you feel about stuff like this? If you have any example of Kerry doing this in a commercial please let me know. I’ll post it along side this image.

E-voting Does NOT Work!

October 21st, 2004

In his September 13th commentary in a popular technology magazine, “E-Voting does work,”
Harris Miller proved he is more out of touch with reality than Mr. Rothke
when he compared elections with Internet commerce and wrote that “No
verifiable instance of e-voting machine tampering has occurred.”

First of all, let’s define the distinct difference between an E-Commerce
transaction and E-voting.

If I order a DVD online, there are only two possible outcomes:

1) I will receive my DVD
2) I will NOT receive my DVD

Either way, I will ultimately know if my electronic transaction was
successful or not. I expect to receive a physical product or service as a
result of that electronic transaction.

With E-voting, even if I received a printout stating who I voted for,
there is no verifiable way of knowing if my electronic vote “actually
counted” towards the candidate that I voted for. If my candidate gets
elected or not, how do I know that my particular individual vote, actually
“registered” as a vote for that candidate? What if I wanted to vote for a “write-in” candidate?

To the contrary, traditional paper ballots leave a physical trail
(including hanging chads) as a means of challenging election results if a
controversy were to ever arise.

While E-commerce and electronic tax filing are potentially vulnerable to
Internet hackers, at least most individuals are able to produce a paper
trail and are able to account for their financial records (i.e. balancing
a check book, etc.). Even if someone’s identity is stolen, it is very
possible to recover from identity theft.

E-voting, however, was dropped from the U.S. Deparment of Defense because
there was no way to be certain that a specific vote came from a specific
voter. The argument of E-voting tampering is not the only issue; there is
also the issue of computer bugs or bad programming code. A missing
semicolon could cause a voter to to inadvertently cast a vote for
Candidate A instead of Candidate B.

It was stated in the September 13th article that the E-voting (DRE)
machines are not connected to the Internet but it was not mentioned that
some DRE machines have the capacity for remote connections. This is how
the vendors download software patches to these devices.

I’ve never met a “remote connection” that a hacker didn’t like.

Besides that, what’s to keep some rogue DRE machine vendor from altering
the election results?

Let’s say that instead of tampering via “remote connection” that someone
or some group physically vandalizes a DRE machine. What method would be
used to recount the electronic ballots?

Electronic voting is proven and practical? Perhaps we should ask the
voters in Alameda County, California and in San Diego County, California
where as recently as this past March, over 600 DRE machines either failed
or displayed faulty information on the screen. As a matter of fact, the
California Secretary of State has banned these DRE machines from at least
four counties altogether for this season’s upcoming elections.

Or what about North Carolina’s 2002 general election where the DRE
machines deleted over 400 votes due to a software bug?

Or what about a 2002 Kansas primary election where a microchip error was
blamed for a miscount of votes?

So much for “proven and practical.”

We Criticize Halloween, But Christmas Gets a Pass.

October 21st, 2004

I believe that there is nothing more confusing than a Christian who doesn’t believe in her child participating in Halloween activities, but thinks it’s fine for her child to participate in Christmas activities.

The sad part is that both holidays are based on Pagan rituals.

Until recently, most Christians have not questioned the traditional celebration of Halloween. The Druids honored Samhain, the “lord of the dead”, and his demons; on November 1st. Halloween actually means “holy or hallowed evening.”

According to the Roman calendar in which days began at midnight, the evening of October 31st was the eve before the hallowed day; hence Halloween or All Soul’s Eve was kept throughout the ancient Pagan world. All Hallows Eve, because it is the day before All Hallows’ or All Saints’ Day, was a holy day in the Roman Catholic Church, Episcopal Church, the Church of England and the Greek Orthodox Church. This festival honors all martyrs, known and unknown, who have died for the church. During the time of Constantine, these two holidays were merged in an attempt to Christianize the heathen. The church could not prevent these heathen practices, so they thought “taming’” them would be the answer. They were, of course, not to worship their gods on the church’s “All Saint’s day.” However, as it is with all compromises, soon the evil overrode the good, and hence we still honor these heathen practices by celebrating Halloween.

Having a Christmas tree is the celebration of a Pagan tradition started by the Druids thousands of years ago as a means of recognizing Noah’s great-grandson Nimrod. Numerous references to this can be found throughout the Old Testament (I Kings 14:23; II Kings 16:2-4; 17:10; II Chronicles 28:4; Jeremiah 2:20; 3:6,13; 10:1-5; Ezekiel 6:13).]

Personally, I have no problems with a parent who doesn’t want his or her child to celebrate Halloween, Easter, or whatever holiday they feel is inappropriate. But let’s not confuse the children. If you want to be consistent, don’t shun one Pagan holiday while celebrating another. That’s hypocritical in my mind.

Laura Bush is a class act

October 21st, 2004

Laura Bush, first Lady
Let’s go over the order of events that have unfolded between Teresa Heinz Kerry and Laura Bush:
1. Teresa tells USA Today newspaper: “I don’t know Laura Bush. But she seems to be calm, and she has a sparkle in her eye, which is good.”But I don’t know that she’s ever had a real job, I mean, since she’s been grown up.”

2. Teresa offers a swift apology:

“I had forgotten that Mrs Bush had worked as a school teacher and librarian, and there couldn’t be a more important job than teaching our children. As someone who has been both a full-time mom and full-time in workforce, I know we all have valuable experiences that shape who we are.
I appreciate and honour Mrs Bush’s service to the country as First Lady, and am sincerely sorry I had not remembered her important work in the past.”

3. Laura responds to the apology:

“She apologized but she didn’t even really need to apologize,” Mrs. Bush told reporters at a coffee shop before attending a rally in Lebanon for President Bush. “I know how tough it is and actually I know those trick questions.”

10 Reasons to Boot Bush

October 21st, 2004

Ted Rall, cartoonist
Ted Rall has an interesting article on yahoo entitled “THE CASE AGAINST BUSH: Ten Reasons America Needs a Change”.

Some of these I agree with, some not at all. I even decided to exclude on of them.
You decide.

1.  He stole the election.

As a federal court, the five runaway Supreme Court justices had no right to agree to hear the case. Under our system of government, elections–and election disputes–fall under state jurisdiction. Their decision to take the case, the way they fixed the outcome in Bush’s favor, and Bush’s willingness to assume the presidency extraconstitutionally are outrages that no patriotic American, even if they agree with his policies, can forgive.

2.  He politicized 9/11.

Bush used 9/11 to push for the USA Patriot Act, fast-track signing authority on free trade, tax cuts for the wealthy, lax regulations for polluters and a multitude of items from the partisan Republican Party wish list.

3.  He let the terrorists get away while giving them a payraise.

Read writer’s description regarding this… it sounded to me like conspiracy theory stuff, but it might have merit. Either way, I don’t know.

4.   He murdered nearly 100,000 people.

he war in Afghanistan killed at least 10,000 civilians and 20,000 Afghan soldiers (of which 10,000 were POWs allegedly massacred by Northern Alliance soldiers as U.S. Special Forces troops supervised the slaughter.)

5.  He bankrupted the treasury.

After two expensive wars of aggression and two series of extravagant tax cuts for the ultrarich–including the elimination of inheritance taxes on multimillionaires’ estates–the federal budget is facing a $5 trillion shortfall.

6.  He threw thousands of innocent people into concentration camps.

Writer calls Guantanimo a modern-day “gulag archipelago” (scattered, forced prisons for political dissidents).

7.  We are more feared than Al Qaeda.

Bush’s radical new policy of “preemption” has terrorized then international community.

8.  Bush has done nothing to improve the economy.

He favors high unemployment as a way to keep labor weak and salaries cheap. A Bush victory would ensure more of the same.

9.  Bush will appoint the next Supreme Court justice.

Whether they’re values issues like abortion or gay marriage, or the next election dispute, the Supreme Court is balanced on the razor’s edge between reason and right-wing fascism.

As the title suggests, there are 10 reasons we should boot Bush. However, I didn’t feel #10 was at all fair to President Bush. Therefore, I have excluded it from this list. If you want to see what it is, you’ll need to read the article in full on yahoo. I won’t post it here.

…And don’t worry. I’m going to post something similar to this article about Kerry. Just give me time to find one. I’m sure it won’t take long.

Sinclair Pulls the plug on Kerry Movie

October 20th, 2004

Sinclair pulls the plug
Hooray for grass-roots activism. This is the kind of thing I like to see. This same thing is happening to SCO, and will happen to ClearChannel.

NEW YORK — Facing advertiser defections, a viewer boycott and a plummeting stock price, as well as strong opposition from Democrats, Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. scrapped its plan to air a film that attacks the 1970s-era antiwar activities of Sen. John F. Kerry, and will instead run a special produced by its news division incorporating parts of the movie.

The decision not to run all of “Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal” came after several shareholder complaints against the company were announced Tuesday, sending Sinclair shares down 3.5% after a nearly 8% slide Monday.

On one hand, I like this outcome. Many people thought this was a bad thing and they let the company know–by pulling their investment money from them.
This should serve as warning to corporations out there that want to play partisan politics. (The same thing happened to CBS…and good).
