I’m looking for employment

May 25th, 2004

I’m looking for full-time work in the Little Rock, Arkansas area
(central Arkansas), and possibly elsewhere in the continental United
States.  If you or someone you know is looking for a programmer,
web-developer, database application developer, or all three please email
me
and I will give you my contact information.
Some of my talents include:

  • Oracle 8i,9i application development
Creating indexes, maintaining tables, altering tables, designing tables
and developing functions, procedures and packages. Creating all manner of
database objects, tuning queries, and ensuring data normalization.

  • Web Development
5+ years in PHP development with MySQL and Oracle. 3+ years with Cold
Fusion 5.0 and Cold Fusion MX.

  • System Administration
I have experience with Solaris having setup Apache 1.3.x with PHP and
Oracle usage. I have also been a system administrator for Microsoft’s
Internet Information Services (IIS 5.0) with Cold Fusion 5.0 and Oracle, as
well as Cold Fusion MX (CFMX).

  • Security
I’ve always been focused on building applications with security in
mind.  In Client/Server development one must always focus on the fact
that in a multi-user environment, it is very important to ensure the privacy
and accuracy of data.  I have built security models in Cold Fusion and
have audited logs on web servers.  If there is a weakness in an
application or server, I can probably find it, and fix it.

update: I got a job! That’s right. I probably won’t be making copius amounts of updates for a while as I will be throwing myself headlong into my work for more hours than should be allowed legally.

John Kerry is Frankenstein

May 22nd, 2004
FrankenKerryMeet “Frankenkerry”.  Last thursday, a friend of mine told me how much John Kerry reminded him of Frankenstein, and he decided to render a photograph of Frankenstein to enhance the likenesses with Kerry’s that already exist. Put Kerry’s mop and smile on Frankenstein’s head, and voila! You have “Frankenkerry”. I began to ponder this comparison and came up with a few likenesses between the two men:
  • Kerry has a big head. So does Frankenstein
  • They both have big foreheads and that “chiseled head” look.
  • They both are very tall. Kerry is 6′ 4″. Frankenstein was 7 feet tall.
  • They both have that bassy, boomy type voice.
  • They can both be considered “misunderstood monsters”
  • They both have wives!
  • They were both made rich and/or famous by a woman — Kerry by Teresa Heinz, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.

Delivery man defends life, gets fired

May 19th, 2004

boycot Pizza Hut
Are you a delivery person for Pizza Hut? Are you willing to die for them while out on delivery? NO? Really? Well, then you might get fired.

Ronald B. Honeycutt, in Carmel, Indiana, was fired from Pizza Hut for defending his life
with a gun while out on delivery.

Honeycutt said he was fired from his job because he had violated the store policy against carrying a gun, which he was licensed to carry.

“It’s my life. I choose which policy to follow", he said.

A Pizza Hut spokeswoman, Patty Sullivan, confirmed that the ban on carrying weapons is a company policy.

Honeycutt said he had never had to fire his gun in self-defense before, although he had pointed at some would-be robbers once before.

“I’m a pretty down to earth kind of person. With everything that’s transpired since 911, killing these days almost seems a necessity if it means your life or theirs.”

Well I have a new policy –to boycott Pizza
Hut
.

Here’s an excerpt from the constitution (2nd amendment): "…the
right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

I left a voicemail with Terry Horne, the reporter that wrote the story, to try to get in touch with Mr. Honeycutt. I’d like to start a fund for him, as a show of support for his efforts for standing up for his rights.
Perhaps he should sue Pizza Hut. Anyone know if any legal avenues exist for Honeycutt?

UPDATE: I spoke to Ron the other day, and his sister-in-law just informed me that no charges will be brought against Ron, and that he was justified in using his firearm.

The Big Unit Has A Perfect Game

May 18th, 2004

Randy JohnsonCy Young awards.
A No hitter. A World Series championship.  These are all things that Randy
Johnson (aka "The Big Unit") has done in his pitching career.
One thing remained– A
perfect game
. (A game where a pitcher allows no batter to reach a base safely.)

Tonight,
that too was added to his repertoire.  At 40 years old, Randy became the
oldest pitcher to pitch a perfect game.
Cy Young, at 37, was the oldest to throw a perfect game.  He did it
1904.

The last pitch of the game was a strike-out pitch to pinch-hitter Eddie
Perez.  That pitch was a 98 mph fast ball — amazing.

Late in the game, Johnson sat stoically in the dugout, staring at the ground
with his eyes closed, appearing to be almost asleep.

“It didn’t faze me,”
the left-hander said. “Winning the game was the biggest, most important

Gasoline jumps above $2 a gallon

May 18th, 2004

gas might cost you an arm and a leg
Arms and legs are dropping like flies lately.  Are these high gas prices
OPEC’s way of paying us back for declaring war on Iraq?  Ah, I won’t make
this political, but I will say this:  These gas prices suck–still.
You might remember that I posted
an article
about this a while back.  Nothing has changed since
then.  Gas prices are still climbing.  I think they’ve officially
climbed to the highest point ever.  I may have to think about making an
investment into a motorcycle.  At least that way I’d get decent gas
mileage. But then again I could also die.  I’ll weigh my options some other
day.

Bug Chasers–Gay men who want HIV

May 18th, 2004

“Bug Chasers”. That’s what they’re calling them–people who long to be HIV+. Sounds scary right?

Here is the excerpt from the Rolling Stones article:

Carlos nonchalantly asks whether his drink was made with whole or skim milk. He takes a moment to slurp on his grande Caffe Mocha in a crowded Starbucks, and then he gets back to explaining how much he wants HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. His eyes light up as he says that the actual moment of transmission, the instant he gets HIV, will be “the most erotic thing I can imagine.” He seems like a typical thirty-two-year-old man, but, in fact, he has a secret life. Carlos is chasing the bug.

“I know what the risks are, and I know that putting myself in this situation is like putting a gun to my head,” he says. Some of that mountain music that’s so popular is playing, making the moment even more surreal as a Southern voice sings, “Keep on the sunny side of life” behind Carlos. “But I think it turns the other guy on to know that I’m negative and that they’re bringing me into the brotherhood. That gets me off, too.”

What frustrates health-care professionals the most is that these gay men have no idea what they are doing. They’re totally self-absorbed, the article states. They don’t have any idea what’s going on with the epidemic in terms of the world or society or what impact their actions might have.
Dr. Marshall Forstein, medical director at Fenway Community Health goes on to say that “The sense of being my brother’s keeper is never discussed in the gay community because we’ve gone to the extreme of saying gay men with HIV can do no wrong. They’re poor victims, and we can’t ever criticize them.”

This is a very telling story. It was hard for me to believe that gay men would do this. Moral fiber in this country…..quickly dwindling.

Nick Berg’s Father is Angry

May 14th, 2004

Here is story (registration required) of Nick Berg’s Father. He seems to be mad at The Bush Administration and Donald Rumsfeld. He said that his son died for the sins of Bush and Rumsfeld.

I feel sorry for him because he lost his son, but to pretend that these murderers aren’t at fault is jsut plain dumb. Nick Berg’s Father said he doesn’t blame the Killers. All I can say is Wow!

There is no comparison

May 11th, 2004

Trust me, I’m not trying to condone the prisoner abuse in which a small number of our soldiers have participated, but there is simply no comparison between what our soldiers did to the prisoners and what the terrorists have done to us. I broke it down for you here:

War versus terrorism

I’m glad that our military has come clean with the fact that we abused some prisoners, and I’m glad that it is out in the open, but until I see our soldiers hanging naked and burned bodies from bridges, I’m simply not going to argue with anyone about how bad our military has acted in Iraq. Get over it.

Pentagon orders KBR to shut off soliders’ Internet

May 10th, 2004

According to this blog, as well as many others, the Pentagon has ordered Kellogg, Brown and Root (a subsidary of Halliburton) to cut off soliders’ “nonessential” internet access for the next 90 days.

It must be nice to be able to stem the flow of bad news coming out of Iraq during an election year. I’m sure this is primarly to keep any more photos of prisoner abuse from cropping up., but this will also stem reports of low morale, lack of proper protective equipment, and other information that’s important for people to hear when deciding who they want shaping US policy for the next four years.

“He who controls the past controls the future; he who controls the present controls the past.”– O’Brien from George Orwell’s 1984

I *knew* they were using 1984 as an instruction manual.

Wes Clark: Rumsfeld Should Resign

May 9th, 2004

Wes Clark on Meet the Press

Wes Clark (left) talked about the Iraq prisoner abuse scandal during the taping of ‘Meet the Press’ at the NBC studios Sunday, May 9, 2004, in Washington. During his interview, he noted that Donald Rumsfeld (right), the secretary of defense, should resign his post. This is finger-pointing at its worst!

Did Rumsfeld stack the naked pyramid of Iraqis? No. He apologized for what our troops did–case closed.

The people who flew the planes into the towers haven’t apologized. The terrorists haven’t apologized. The people who burned the bodies of our troops and hanged their naked and burned bodies from a bridge haven’t apologized.

I think Wesley Clark has no business saying Rumsfeld should resign. Clark gets the “over-politicizing” award for the month. Clark has a “Should Rumsfeld resign” poll on his website.
